The city of Achim has six elementary schools. Students are assigned to a specific elementary school based on their catchment area. When assigning students, care is taken to ensure that the school is within walking distance for the children.

IGS Achim is a comprehensive school that describes itself as a “school for everyone.” Alongside elementary schools and high schools, the IGS is another type of school in Achim.
As a “school for everyone,” the IGS places great emphasis on inclusion and integration. In its mission statement, the school describes itself as intercultural.
Through parent-teacher associations, open houses, and workplace internships in the 9th grade, the school presents itself as an active community, including a high level of parental involvement.
With its upper secondary program, the IGS offers students the opportunity to earn their Abitur. In addition, the IGS is one of four full-day schools in Achim.

There are two high schools in Achim: the GamMa (Gymnasium am Markt) and the Cato Bontjes van Beek Gymnasium. Both offer a comprehensive education, and both are designated as "European Schools."
The Gymnasium am Markt (GamMa) Achim has established itself as a major educational center in the region. It has held the title of “Europaschule” since 2014 and offers students a wide range of opportunities to engage with international topics. The school regularly organizes events and activities that promote European awareness.
One of the educational center’s key focuses is digital education. GamMa Achim is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Digital media are integrated across all subjects. Special apps are used in math and chemistry. Digital learning methods are also utilized in German, art, computer science, and foreign languages.
The Cato Bontjes van Beek Gymnasium was founded in 1971 and, named after the famous German resistance fighter, has made it its mission to educate students to become free and responsible individuals—in the tradition of opposing tyranny and inhumanity.
As a European School, the school cultivates and promotes cooperation with various European countries. Particular emphasis is placed on developing and strengthening intercultural skills and a cosmopolitan outlook. With this goal in mind, the school places a strong focus on foreign languages and cultural diversity.
