Location and history of the town of Langwedel

With around 14,800 people in an area of just under 76 km2, the municipality of Langwedel is somewhat more densely populated and is made up of a total of six districts: Daverden, Etelsen, Holtebüttel, Haberloh, Langwedel and Völkersen. Langwedel was first mentioned in a document in 1226, and as early as the Middle Ages, the village was allowed to bear the name "Flecken", which granted the locals certain market and status rights.

The landscape in and around Langwedel is gently undulating and characterized by large wooded areas and, above all, extensive meadows. Just north of Langwedel is the Achim-Verdener Geest, which is part of the Stade Geest nature reserve. In the south, the rivers Weser and Alte Aller run through the landscape and provide protected habitats for numerous animal and plant species with their biotopes.

History of Langwedel Castle

Langwedel Castle is referred to in old documents as "Langwedel Castle". It was founded in 1250 in a strategically important location on the military and trade route between Verden and Bremen. In its eventful history, characterized by a struggle for power, it has lived through many eras. These included periods under the flag of the Archbishopric of Bremen, Sweden and Prussia. From 1866 it came into the possession of the Prussians and then fell victim to destruction.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, a windmill belonging to the local miller family Rehbock stood on the castle hill. Since 1964, the "Burgbad Langwedel" outdoor pool has been located here, which was extensively renovated by Langwedel in 2006/2007.

The train station, which is on the Wunstorf - Bremen line, is served by the RS1 regional express line. Langwedel Observatory

Both domes are equipped with powerful telescopes that allow visitors to explore the night sky.

The two domes are currently located on the grounds of the Oberschule am Goldbach secondary school in Langwedel. The observatory has therefore been involved in several professional research projects. Langwedel market - folk festival highlight

The Langwedeler Markt is the largest fair in Langwedel and takes place once a year for three days. The whole thing is organized by the "VdS Langwedel - Vereinigung der Selbstständigen e.V.".

Traditionally, the festivities begin with a parade in which numerous groups and decorated floats parade through the streets. Local bands and artists perform on the market stage. The flea market on Saturday morning is a special highlight. You can find some bargains at the numerous stalls. Etelsen Castle - royal history to trace

Etelsen Castle was built in 1886 and is surrounded by a wonderful baroque-style castle park. Thanks to extensive renovations, the castle can now be used as a venue for cultural, private or business celebrations or conferences and as an event location. It has retained its original beauty to this day. The listed walls provide an impressive protective wall for the stylishly designed interiors, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The sexton's house is one of the oldest houses in Daverden in the Langwedel district. Its roots can be traced back to 1650 - an old document suggests that the house is even 100 years older. Thanks to donations, grants and the extensive voluntary work of members of the Küsterhaus Daverden - Verein für Kultur und Geschichte Daverden e.V., the Küsterhaus was extensively renovated and opened as a meeting place in 2018. Since then, five working groups have ensured its ongoing operation.
