Change does not happen by itself. In the district of Verden, Future is being Future shaped—with projects that empower people and anticipate challenges.

Future Region Central Lower Saxony

The district of Verden has joined forces with the districts of Diepholz and Nienburg/Weser in order to tackle important future tasks and promote projects in the areas of "Regional Innovation Capability" and "Low CO2 Society and Circular Economy" in supra-regional cooperation. The focus is on the two flagship projects "Education offensive for sustainable building" and "Model region heat transition: Heating settlements ina CO2-neutral way", which are to be implemented together with regional stakeholders.

For example, the Central Lower Saxony Future Region launched the "Modellregion Wärmewende: Heating settlements in aCO2-neutral way" competition until April 30, 2024. The aim was to find innovative solutions to heat buildings and settlements ina CO2-neutral way. The focus was on new buildings and renovations of existing buildings. The aim is now to proactively tackle the challenges of the heating transition together in the three districts. You can find out more about the Central Lower Saxony Future Region here.

The school-work education network

The school-work education network was founded in July 2011. It serves as a network to improve learning, educational and life opportunities for children and young people. The network has set itself the task of supporting careers guidance in lower and upper secondary schools. The joint responsibility for successful educational biographies of young people is at the forefront of this. The vocational training planner, digital vocational orientation calendar and vocational training scout, which visualizes the possibilities for educational transitions, have been developed in cross-school cooperation. In addition, a digital training and internship portal has been set up for the district of Verden, and the Newcomer! training magazine has been published regularly since 2018. In 2023, the school-work education network Life an education fund to promote best-practice career guidance projects (such as trips on the job bus).

Ready for training and career entry

In 2015, the employment agency, the municipal job center in Verden and the youth welfare agency consolidated their good cooperation through the "Bündnis Jugend Beruf" (Youth Career Alliance) and agreed in writing on continuous further development in the sense of a youth employment agency. In addition to the joint and close coordination of measures and offer structures for young people, mutual job shadowing, binding processes and much more, the "Find your career" project has been a joint advisory project since 2017, which is now being implemented at all SEK I schools and vocational schools. Fixed consultation hours and binding offers for pupils from the eighth grade onwards as well as information formats for parents are being tested. The presence of a permanent team in the school should help pupils to gain confidence and actively take care of their career guidance at an early stage and make a conscious decision about their path after school.

In addition to skills monitoring and the strategic action plan, the district of Verden also began implementing the "Education in Focus (BiF)" project at the end of 2016, which is funded by the federal government and the ESF and aims to introduce a data-based municipal education management and monitoring system. This has resulted in the systematic observation and analysis of education-related data, processes and results (such as school-leaving qualifications, further education courses) in order to optimize the structure of services and improve educational advice. Two education reports are available to date. This is also accompanied by an expansion of the target groups and focal points of action of the skilled worker offensive.

Nursing training network in the district of Verden

In January 2020, the Nursing Professions Act made its way into training. The previously independent occupational profiles of geriatric nursing, healthcare and nursing and healthcare and paediatric nursing were merged to form the professional qualification of nursing specialist. This has significantly changed the structure of nursing training. In February 2020, the Verden district nursing training association was founded as a permanent learning location cooperation in order to network and support the nursing facilities in the district and to ensure the rotation of trainees during the compulsory and elective assignments in the new generalist training. The established coordination office takes care of deployment planning, advises trainees and companies, takes care of the acquisition of further training places and carries out public relations work for the training network and the nursing profession.

Arriving in the district of Verden

Since January 2017, more attention has also been paid to the target group of new immigrants. All further education providers are working together in close and trusting cooperation to improve the local offer structure. Since April 2023, the Coordination Office for Migration and Participation, Integration and Language, or KMuTIS for short, has been in the process of being (re)established and is now based in the employment services and business development department of the district administration. The coordination office is closely linked to the education office, education monitoring, the skilled workers campaign and job placement. Numerous stakeholders from local authorities, schools, other institutions and the Economy are working to improve the educational success of immigrants and attract foreign skilled workers in order to counter the increasingly noticeable shortage of skilled workers. The challenges lie in providing young people with good educational opportunities and integrating adult immigrants into the German labor market.
Since spring 2025, the Integreat app has been a free, multilingual information platform that helps new citizens and people with a migration background to quickly find their way around the district. It offers useful functions for newcomers and residents alike.

Welcome Center for immigrant professionals

The ESF-funded "Welcome Center" project, which is implemented by "Arbeit im Landkreis Verden" (ALV) in close cooperation with the economic development agency, has been running in the district of Verden since November 2023. The central task is to support immigrants in receipt of SGB II benefits and asylum seekers in the districts of Verden and Osterholz with questions relating to their arrival. This includes assistance in the form of advice and referral advice on a wide range of problems, such as childcare, finding accommodation or referral to the relevant service centers. In addition, qualification opportunities are identified and help is provided with the actual job search, for example by preparing and reviewing application documents, and support with the recognition of foreign qualifications. For the recognition of qualifications acquired abroad, the interviews are prepared and accompanied by the IQ Recognition Advisory Service in Cuxhaven.
